A country garden oasis engagement // near Edmonton, Alberta
July 24 was one rainy and stormy day if I’ve ever seen one. Thunder was shaking the walls of the house and the rain was coming down sideways. You guys know I’m all for shooting in the rain, but this kind of rain and wind?… I don’t know if that would be pleasant for anyone. So when the afternoon rolled around and the rain still didn’t seem to be letting up, I emailed Ruth about possibly having to cancel and reschedule this shoot. Usually this wouldn’t be so bad, but because we booked this shoot so close to their wedding day (they actually got married this past Saturday) the only next available opportunity would have been after the wedding (which wouldn’t be ideal – see this post why!). So we all crossed our fingers that the clouds would clear up and decided to stick to our original plan.
Seven o’clock rolls around and what do we have? Sunshine poking out of the clouds! Classic Alberta storm, where it’s horrible all day and then in the last few hours before sunset, the sun is shinning and the sky is blue! And oh my was that evening light perfect! I’m so SO happy we didn’t end up rescheduling because this shoot couldn’t have turned out any more perfect.
We met up at Chris and Ruth’s friend’s acreage just south of Cooking Lake. Her garden was absolutely beautiful and so was the rest of the property! With so many photo opportunities I didn’t even know where to start – there was the cutest little red barn, some fields, cool looking rustic fences, the garden and coupled with the sweetest couple this was a photographer’s dream!
What can I say about Ruth and Chris? Well, there’s no doubt that these two are madly in love. I know that all my couples are, but Ruth and Chris simply displayed their love in the sweetest fashion: constantly giggling and endless kisses on the cheeks. When I overheard Ruth asking him why he gave her so many kisses… his answer: “Because they make you smile.”. ♥︎
